Cat Urine
8 Answers
Can anyone help please? I moved house a few months ago and since then my cat has started to widdle in corners. I have tried commercial sprays, pepper, chili powder, washing the area with tea tree oil, eucalyptis and dettol, but nothing seems to stop him. He has been neutered so that is not the problem. I have a cat flap and also have a litter tray in the kitchen to which he has access. I am determined to stop him - he didn't do this in my previous house so I would appreciate any tips. Thanks.

It's just like one of those plug-in air fresheners, except it produces feline pherimones which are supposed to make the cat feels more at ease.
I suggest this as we have recently bought one to stop our little carpet monster from over-cleaning. I must say it has softened her up quite a bit.
There are many things you can try, I'm sure loads of peple will post suggestions for you. Best of luck.

I sympathise with you Celtigra3. We had the same problem with a cat settling in and didn't realize until we started to smell the pong! Firstly, wash the carpet with Biological soap powder getting right down to the backing.
When dry, put squares of tinfoil down on the areas where he is weeing (they don't like tinfoil.) Get a wee bottle of Citronella oil (Holland & Barratt) and put quite a few drops onto cotton eyepads, then set on tinfoils. Keep repeating with the oil. Hopefully, this will deter him. I also bought a Feliway diffuser. We don't appear to have anymore problems-- touch wood!!
Hope this helps.

I have a cat rescue home & have come into this problem now & again...one method that has always had results for me is to put bowls of dry cat food in all the places that the cat has decided are pee areas. Cats will not tinkle on their food, and finding food in those areas will make the cat stop using the area as a loo & redefine it as an eating area.
In time, you can begin to remove the bowls, but you may have to persist for a little while. This method has never failed for me!

same problem with my cat. fortunately yours seems like upset following moving and will probably settle. mine is illness and behavioural!
always clean with biological detergent. not anything with ammonia as confuses cat.
try the feliway diffuser
www.vetuk.co.uk do it cheaper than vets,
and foil does work.
best thing ive found is food. put food where the cat wees inappropriatly. might look silly with lots of bowls around but better than the smell. vets can give you lots of other advice if this fails

I have the same problem with my little monsters, and I have found washing the area with biological detergent with a little bi-carb added to the water, then spraying the area with
Petworld's Cat Urine Remover spray works. It discourages them to spray there again. My cats have also been 'snipped', but one of them is persistent in spraying, and I was told he could still have a testicle hidden inside him which the vet may have missed. Apparently, in some cats, this is quite common, so I am taking him to the vet for a thorough check!! Aww poor lil' Whingeee Bobbit!!

Hi again.
Hope your problem is sorted now.
Just thought id let you know after ages of these problems my vet did tests and cat was fine. No kidney problems etc. He decided to try injections that rebuild the layer/coating inside the bladder. These jabs are done every week. Think he said a course of 3 but we tried longer because such an ongoing problem. After 5 jabs she stopped weeing. My house finally smells like a house again :-)
