When I use my washing machine (Hotpoint) and wash dark clothes there is always white marks left on the clothes. Is there something wrong with my washing machine or am I putting in to much powder? I've noticed also that some stains have not come out but I use Ariel. So not sure what it is. Thanks in advance

I use Daz or Ariel and I also have white marks on my clothes sometimes on a dark wash... I do NOT think it's your washing maching as I've had 5 different makes of machines in the last 18 years! I think that some powders don't dissolve properly causing the white marks, liquid versions don't leave white marks! I'm not sure about your stains not coming out, maybe you're overloading the machine? or maybe they just need a stain treatment before washing? I use oxi for stubborn stains before I put them in the main wash.
No problems with Surf
Try doing a 90 degree hot wash to clean any residual soap powder and scum out of your machine - this may help.
Sometimes when I use the gel (jelly ones), I used to get bits of the gel still stuck to my clothes.
Now I always use powder and yes I get the white marks too!
I started using less powder and giving a good rinse.
It seems to work.
Yeah this happened to me, i started to just use the liquid version and the marks stopped i think it is the powder!
