Army

Right,im a 22 year old female who quite likes the sound of the army for a job ... such a good opportunity with lots of qualifications in it which you can achieve, learning to drive and all those kind of things. However, i have my own place now so wouldnt really want to be moved around the country. I was wondering, is there anything similar to the army to do which isnt so demanding (i.e you not having to be relocated at the drop of a hat)? cheers in advance

Don't recommend the army unless you want to go to Iraq and fight Tony Blair's war.

As for alternatives....erm.....the police?

Cheers for your answer. Theres a possibility but for what i go into i would have to train in the job as i need a fulltime wage to support myself and keep the house going etc and im guessing the only way to do this would be to go and take public services fulltime at college?i did actually look at the police when i was younger!:)

Hi,
I'm not sure if they still do it, but in the Airforce, there used to be a thing called 'local service' which meant that women could be stationed close to their home.
You should be aware though that joining the armed forces means that if necessary, you will be required to go to war even if it is not in your local area.
If you still want to join the army and keep your own place, - rent it out - you get an extra income on top of your wages and the mortgage will be paid too.
The forces are a great option for the gutsy and adventurous, but not a good idea if you are boring, in a rut and happy there.

If you come back to read this - the Army will move you all over the world, on a regular basis. In some jobs bi-annually. If you have special family requirements they will keep you where you need to be ish. Owning a house isn't one of those reasons. You will get help with renting it out though, which leaves you in the position to buy another and another...
The airforce has less places to go (or less chance of going places) and I think the Navy has even less.
