All materials are made of elements. The elements each have there own atoms. Atoms combine to form molecules and they are know as compounds. For example a molecule of water is built from 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom. The Atoms are composed of sub-atomic particles, ie electons, protons Neutrons etc perhaps that's what you mean by particles.

That's a hell of a question for a school quiz!

Louis DeBroglie showed that at the lowest level matter can be considered as waves or particles.

It rather depends at what level your school quiz is at - If you're doing GCSE level then the answer is yes.

If you're doing A level then cry foul because it's a trick question

thanks for the replies, it's science week at my sons school, he's year 6 so 12 years old
Not being that well informed - but is there not some current controversy about 'dark matter' which questions the laws of physics and is not even made up of atoms?
