Not quite sure this is the right section to post this question in, but recent reports suggest that British people are flocking to live abroad. Would you want to live abroad, and if so where - and why?
No, I wouldn't, is my answer, because 'abroad' would be full of those whingy people who want to escape the UK. Which would actually leave the UK a much nicer place to be.
I would love to live abroad. I think too many of those whingy people have already arrived in the UK and a foreign country would be a much better option. Don't have any preference to where though! The only thing stopping me is family! My mum would be gutted if I left the country. I live 230 miles away from her and that's bad enough!
i would like to try living in Antigua, it is very british but with better weather and a more laid back attitude and no polution. Not many jobs though but it is a very very pleasant place.
I agree with Llamatron. I love Canada especially Toronto and Montreal. I don't mind the warmer weather over here but I love the cold. the other day in Montreal the highest temp was -12 and the lowest was around -19 !!! 'GET IN THERE' and people here whinge that's it's cold !!!!
I moved to New Zealand last year and we love it. Its so beautiful - I never get fed up with the scenary. Its not crowded, people are lovely too. But I do miss the UK too - especially my family.
I can understand that, chitchat. New Zealand, Canada, etc, would be too far for me. I could cope with Spain or France because I can get back within a couple of hours - and it takes me a couple of hours to drive to see my family now - so within Europe I would still feel pretty close to them.
My cousin and his wife moved to Spain 4 yrs ago, and he has never really settled.
The practical problems, such as health care, buying his property, banks, taxes, have been a nightmare for him.
If it could go wrong, it did.
He comes home to stay with his family twice a year, and says he doesnt feel as though he belongs in either country.
I think he would like to return here, but cant go through doing it all in reverse.
Ive lived in Spain now for 6 years, and really the only thing what spoils it is the type of people that come to live here from the UK!! learning the language is the main problem, if you speak and understand spanish your half way there. I can go for a walk here on my own without the threat of being mugged, their health system is far superior than the UK. I pay the same council tax for a year that my sons pay a month, and yes again for a better service, bins emptied every day!!!
