Can you have back pain when an egg is being released....just before your period? My back is throbbing to the left intermittently and I feel that it hs done this in the abdomen in the past.

I think you can...
I know I do.
The egg is released around day 14 of your cycle - a couple of weeks before your period.

Pre-menstrual symptoms can include backache though.

Yes to that one suzy, I get an excruciating pain ( usually when I sit on the toilet, a GP told me this position would ' enhance ' the pain )

Sympathy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Suzyangel my heart goes out to you.
This is a recognised pain you are having - its technical name is mittelschmerz syndrome.
Speak to you GP about this and they should be able to offer some decent painkillers to take for the few days every month we have to suffer.
See if this site offers any more help:

Hope this is of some help x

Thankyou for that. It doesn't mention back pain but describes my abominal symptoms. Really interesting.
