i want to be an accountant!! help!!
3 Answers
I want to be a basic accountant, maybe start a small business doing peoples accounts. I would like an acca qualification. I need to study from home though, which i know is possible. Ive geard different things off different people and websites. Ive heard that you have to have 2 years training in an accountants office then another source said 3 years and then another said 400 days!! Can someone please tell me what the deal is here, i need to know the facts please!! Ive also heard that once you have registered with acca, you have 9 years to take the exams so there is no time limit. What entry requirements do i need? Can you take the actual exams at home if you are disabled? Once i have my acca qualification with the study expirience, is that all i have to do- will i then be qualified? I would really appreciate this if you can genuinely help me, like i said different websites said different things! Thankyou :)

It is very possible to study at home and you will have to get three years supervised experience. Passing the exams plus your 3 years experience allow you to gain membership of ACCA. An alternative approach would be to start with AAT or ACCA's own CAT. These give exemptions from part 1 of the ACCA (ACCA pulled out of supporting AAT, but I'm fairly sure they still accept it). Another possibility is to study the Certificate in Accounting with The OU. I know CIMA accept it as stage 1. ACCA might also.
(AAT now has Diploma route which does have the experience requirement of the old programme).
To find just google AAT and ACCA CAT
