Dangerous Dogs Amnesty - Warning
22 Answers
Merseyside are introducing a 7 day 'dangerous dogs amnesty' where people who think they own a 'pit bull type' dog can hand it over to the police. Do not hand your dog over - IT WILL BE DESTROYED.
I have tried to post a link to a site called www.deednotbreed but it won't come out. I will try to get the details and post them here.
Thos who keep these types of dogs for the wrong reasons will not hand them over but innocent pet owners may be fooled into thinking they have to. Only a court can order your dog to be surrendered.

It doesn't surprise me and it concerns me greatly thet Merseyside Police Dog Handlers have been designated as 'experts' by senior officers to pick out the pit-bull or pit bull type. A few years ago, when the dangerous dogs Act was in full swing, i delivered a training session to police officers on the Act and carried out a similar exercise asking them to pick out the 'dangerous dog'. Not one police officer got it right... Believe me, Merseyside Police Dog Handlers are NOT the experts their bosses have decreed them to be.
I understand what Merseyside Police is trying to do in preventing scallies & lowlife criminals from exploiting these dogs, but as Lankeela rightly points out its the responsible owners who will be affected not the bad ones. My daughter works in a vets and they have had so many distressed genuine owners of cross breeds, a lot of them rescue dogs, calling for advice that the Vets have decided they need their own policy on this as they do not want to destroy a healty dog simply becase of its unknown parentage. Pity we can't have destruction orders on the unscrupulous owners!

first things first apbt r not the problem here its the fools who keep them . we all no that there have been attacks by them but wot about attack by the andrex dog (lab) these are number 1 at the moment for attacks but we dont hear about that do we. i own a irish blue staff misty she is a great dog with a mile long pedigree and it maddens me to here people say that thay are in fact pit bulls when you see a pitt bull and a irish staff together the diffrencies are easy to see apbts are taller bigger built the jowls are more baggy .so if you are after an irish staff my advise make sure you get a pedigree with it .
