ipod won't update

whenever i connected my ipod(mini) to my computer there would be an option to update, now all it does is charge and the "playlist" where i would choose to sync or add/take off playlists won't come up. how do i fix this?

Ive plugged mine in an hour ago to charge up and mine did the same.
Its always before done what you said but this time it hasn't ive just repluged in and a page came up to up date and now its back.
So press accept and it will be back

might reinstalling itunes work?
