I have a phone number that I need to find an address for in the uk there are hundreds of sites in the US but having awful problems finding any in England any suggestions

You used to be able to use 192.com but as most numbers are ex-directory it is not as easy as it used to be. BT produced a national codes decoder book for finding the right town etc. Failing that try just putting the number in google. It works a lot of the time.

It is now illegal to use reverse directories in the UK.

Phone the number and ask them!
