Notice Period
10 Answers
I resigned from my job yesterday, I am on an 8 weeks notice period, is there anyway anyone knows of that I could reduce this, any suggestions to make my current employer let me go earlier? I have 5 days holiday to take so that is 1 week less, but other than that I am stuck. My new boss wants me there as soon as possible... hence the wanting to be out of my current role asap. Any ideas really appreciated.

did you tell your new boss that you have to give 8 wks notice? If not, then you should have.
as Zacmaster advised you, never ever burn your bridges and leave a job under bad circumstances, even if you hate the place. Walking out is an option but you would loose pay and face. Wouldnt create a good example for your new boss either, as one day you could do the same to them. Stick out the 7-8 weeks and then start your new job.

I work in a finance role withing a massive plc. Because of the nature of my role I have an 8 weeks notice period, so an adequate handover can take place, and the knowledge and skills I have are quite specialised. Others in my department are on 12 weeks, the theory behind this is that quarterly different processes take place, so if someone resigns their replacement has to know the procedures for both monthly and quarterly processes.
