Im from the Isle of Lewis, which is also joined to the Isle of Harris (they are not separate at all!!) Stornoway has an airport which can be reached from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Inverness. It has everything to offer with the lively town of Stornoway, beautiful tranquil beaches throughout Lewis and Harris, the standing stones of Callanish and other historical sites. There is also the Hebridean Celtic Festival in July which is absolutely superb but it may be tricky getting accommodation at that time. A few links for you:

http://www.borghpottery.com/ (fantastic place, just down the road from my house and my friend lives next door! Just pop in for a cup of tea lol!)
http://www.johnmacleanphotography.com/lapa1d.h tm (my fave beach, not too far from the town)
http://www.hebceltfest.com/ (The event of the year in Stornoway, a superb way to sample the music and culture)
If you fly up, car hire would be recommended. If you can stand the drive to Ullapool then the ferry crossing takes 2.5 hours but its a very big ferry and you dont feel it at all.
Any question just ask!
