Why can`t flies find their way out of an open window they flew in through?I`m on the settee with a stinking cold and have been watching a bluebottle for about 20 minutes knocking itself out on the glass, you could get a bus through the open window but it doesn`t want to know....
never mind, the cat has eaten it now....:-)

The times I've nearly smashed the glass lampshades trying to swat them out! Yes, wasps are worse though!
Mind you, I was switching on my car radio once & a spider crawled out of the air vent right by my hand! I screamed & don't know how I didn't end up on the pavement!

What is the last thing that goes through the mind of a fly when it hits a car window?
Yes, its ass.
Basically it is confusion. Have you ever tried to explain the concept of window to a very young child, or a cat or a dog? Now try it with a fly. See.
Flies have what is called compound eyes, which are composed of units called ommatidia. An ommatidium contains a cluster of photoreceptor cells surrounded by support cells and pigment cells. The outer part of the ommatidium is overlaid with a transparent cornea. Each ommatidium is innervated by one axon and thus provides the brain with one picture element. The brain forms an image from these independent picture elements. The number of ommatidia in the eye of the Diptera (generally the fly) is several hundred. Now, I dont need to explain how difficult it is to get your key in the lock when you are seeing double after having several triples, so one can only imagine how difficult it is for a fly to find that space that looks like the light but is in fact both an opened and closed window. Give it up for the flies of our nation.

Bumble Bees are worse. They bumble in through the conservatory door, realise they are off-track, and rise up to the perspex roof where they just bash bash bash against it. There is no solution, and they invariably shag themselves out and drop to the floor several hours later. You can point at the door and shout as much as you like, they take no notice. Why can't insects look where they are going ?
