My brother's girlfriend has recently had a baby, soon after I have found out Im pregnant, Im two months now. Experiencing back pain which i beleive to be quite normal? But also in the top of my thighs feel like iv done a full gym workout!! SO....with my nephew just being born i asked his mum thinking she might have an idea what the pains are? she replied "well yes beause the milk isnt yet in your boobs, your milk is stored in the top of your thighs. That's were it is made!!" I couldnt beleive my ears, and she was totally serious, i mean she isnt one to have a joke and stuff! so were the hell has she got this from? And what is the REAL cause of these pains PLEASE!!??!!

is her name Jade Goodey, thats the stupid sort of thing she would say. I'd imagine its the ligaments in your joints relaxing as your now carrying an extra one thats all.
Hi loza. Did she not attend any midwife appts or read anything or go to antenatal classes? Oh my god.

Your aching thighs may be caused by your body producing a chemical called relaxin (sp?) this causes your ligaments to soften. If the pain increases and/or spreads to your pelvis then speak to your midwife about SPD. Also, as spanner said, it could just be your body adjusting to carrying the extra weight.
You haven't just started wearing flip flops or something have you? If I wear any kind of slip on shoes when I haven't worn them for a few days, I always get sore thighs - it must be the different way I walk in them!

Thankyou for all your answers! I know daft isn't it! I couldn't beleive what she was saying either. pixie_woo no she didnt attend any classes like that , but thats something im thinking of. Do i speak to my midwife about getting involved in the classes? and annie0000 not really I always wear flip flops during the weekend and small heeled shoes for work. It's also mainly painful on the inside legs but maybe it is because i'm carrying the extra weight. Also whilst I have you all here....being two months pregnant, is it normal to have put on half a stone already...my eating patterns not much changed, if anything I bring most food back up? Thanks again for your answers xx
I put on loads of weight quite quickly, but I think that was due to the 6 magnum a day habit I developed - well they were on buy one pack get one free! I did however almost get pregnancy related diabetes and ended up with a 9lb 13 oz baby, so maybe not to be recommended! lol

haha! i might have to come up with the buy one get one free offer when i develop a craving! hopefully il be like my auntie and have a craving for ice pops n ice cubes xx
Hi loza.
I'm attending NHS run antenatal classes at my local hospital. I got a leaflet in my pregnancy pack at my 1st appt with midwife. There are all sorts of different classes you can attend but the NHS ones are generally the cheapest and cover the widest range of info. Maybe phone your local hosp women's centre & ask.
In regards to weight-gain; I found a useful tool on:

http://www.fortunebaby.com/pregnancy-weight-ga in-calculator.html (sorry can't figure out how to put a link on)

Its only a guide and its really important that you don't deprive yourself of anything during pregnancy. To give you an idea of weight-gain; I'm 33+5 weeks pg, I weighed 126lbs (9st) pre-preg & now weigh 152lbs (10st12lbs). I'm only 5'2" and everybody is different.

If your anyhing like I was I was starving all the time at the beginning sickness or not. This has stopped a bit now. Of course you could be carrying more than one, if you haven't already had a scan to say otherwise. Everyone is different, some people have a small little belly and people like me look 6 months pregnant when i'm only 4!!! so unfair I know.
sounds like ligament pain which is common.

Sounds like she has got it slightly confused on the thigh / breast milk. Breast milk helps reduce the fat in your body, usually on the thighs first.
breast feeding helps with overall weight loss after baby is born. some people do take things very literally don't they?

Thank you everyone for your answers. I have had my first midwife appt and the only leaflets given were about clood testing and the CVS test! I see her again on the 13th June. Yes people do seem to think that i'm having twins as my belly is quite big for two months pregnant! although that's just peoples opinion and im not too bad now with the morning sickness
There is a logic behind her statement, lol, someone else asked this Q on here so I have posted my answer on here too-
I have read that you put weight on your thighs as stores of fat as reserves for when you are breastfeeding-
"It's normal to gain fat around your breasts, bottom, thighs and tummy during pregnancy -this is nature's way of storing up food for the baby. Breastfeeding will help use up this excess fat,..." is an exerpt from babycentre website.
I imagine its what she was told by her mother/mothers mother etc as thats probably what they thought back then.

Its like they used to say that when you were pregnant to drink lots of milk as the baby would leach the calcium from your body and your teeth would fall out-when we now know its due to softening of the gums etc.....
Hope this helps!!!
:O)
good luck by the way!!
