Ignore them

I can't believe people are childish enough to post multiple answers to the people who are posting repeat questions - grow up, what is the point of overloading the inboxes of these people? I'm sure many of you arrived at this site by asking asking such a question and ended up staying - I know I did - I'm pretty certain that people who recieve 243 reponses to their question are hardly likely to become regulars and pass on details of the site to others so in effect you are demeaning the site. Rmember not everyone realises how the repeat question function works so ask anyway. If you don't like the question IGNORE IT!

What you have to understand is that on Friday bagel overloaded this site with these questions. Instead of posting these questions in the Quizzes & Puzzles category, bagel posted the same questions throughout 5 or 6 different categories. This made the categories practically useless for searching for particular questions.
If bagel had simply posted the questions in the correct category and not overloaded the site the regular users would not of been so upset. Unfortunately once tempers had been riled various methods were used to drive these cowboy questions from AB.
As this is still fresh in everybodies minds new posters are now suffering for it.
I hold my hands up and admit that I was one of the first, probably the original, instigators of overloading e-mails with multiple posts. I certainly do not offer any apologies to bagel who started this all off, but do offer my sincerest apologies to all honest posters who have suffered the backlash.
Let us hope that some sense of normality can now return to this site.

In the (good/bad) old days the editors were vigilent to prevent people answering questions with stupid posts in order to keep them within the "all unanswered questions" category. I can't help thinking this was a good idea. Now any first answer is kept. I can't help thinking this is a bad idea. Posting multiple stupid answers is also a bad idea as you can simply click the "this question is closed" and no e-mail notifications are sent. I whole-heartedly agree with you moog, if you don't like the question or questioner then ignore it.
I do agree that sections can become overloaded by repeat posters, but I think that the reponses that are being given either in terms of being abusive or a high number reponses are only encouraging people to post more and become abusive themselves. Let the editors sort it out, it's not difficult to ignore, like I say it's childish and ruining the site more than the odd person asking the same question in multiple sections or not taking notice of the repeat question filter - it's becoming like a school yard!
I wish everyone thought the same way as the above posters, perhaps then there would be a semblance of sanity on this once brilliant site. All I can see is rudeness, vulgarity and spamming etc.
Like you Moog (and Moonhead) I have trained myself to ignore the repeat Q's and just answer as politely as possible in the knowledge that first time posters do not know this site, and therefore assume that theirs is an original Q.
AB has become totally fragmented - very few questions are in the correct category, and what's worse no-one seems to bother. More categories mean more chaos, and this problem comes to a head at the weekend when there is no moderation whatsoever....so what's the answer.....? Stricter moderation and weekend cover perhaps - or some members 'policing' the site....?
My patience is pretty good, but I have to admit after two and a half years I do have thoughts of departure if events don't improve.

Cetti, it's not so much that my patience is being stretched with this site, which it is, more that I'm finding fewer and fewer reasons to return here. So what... many of you might say, which is fair enough, but I have also noticed a marked reduction in the number of long term regulars posting both questions and answers which can't be good for the site. It seems that everyone is just complaining about everyone else rather than attempting some level of tolerance - I feel increasingly that the people who in the past have made this site work are more and more like pubes clinging to the edge of a urinal... sooner or later they'll all get p*ss*d off.
Ignore them? are you daft? I'm having soooooooo much fun filling up their inboxes with complete drivel! After all if you can't follow the basics when told 'a similar question to yours has been asked, do you still want to ask it'? then you deserve all that's coming to you.
Especially in light of the fact that people's tolerance of the Marlboro quizzers is at an all time low and is well documented thus on every category.
I'm with you Philtaz. Moog, the site has gone to pot and it's up to the Ed. to sort it before he loses all decent contributors. It's their money making business after all, it's not a favour to any of us. And if it takes repeated answers before there is a response, so be it.....nothing else is working.
243....i thought one of them caught well over a 1000....ignoreing these questions simply doesn't make them go away...that has been tried in the past the numpties simply repost or draw more people in who do a google.
What is needed to draw back the regulars who cintributed both good quality answers and questions is either the editors to get a grip and start editing or to hand over some limited powers to the regulars and let them help.
