Hi, i'm currently doing my A level in Media and i am partaking in a critical research study of crime in the media. I have decided to focus on The Effects Model. I would be grateful if people could leave their views to the question below. Thanks

Do you believe that watching violent media footage can induce violence within society? (The Media Effects Model)

I argue with my wife all the time about this. In my teens I used to watch loads of banned movies and import the most terrible stuff from abroad - now I am a greeting card illustrator drawing cute teddy bears for a living!

I think if you are going to do something violent / terrible then the disposition, the trigger if you will, has to be in place already - a mental instability, a chemical imbalance.

Strange situations, traumas or even religion causes more people to do harm than watching movies does, I can't recall a case where it was 100% that a movie caused someone to go out and do something silly - but there is always a lot of media / gutter press speculation.

But that's just my opinion - hope it is of some help.
