.dll file error

I'm tryinging to reinstall Yahoo Messenger and get an error message about a missing file msvcr71.dll, I've downloaded the missing file but it's just sitting on my desk top and messenger still won't reinstall - any ideas what I should do?

try putting it in C:\Windows\system32

If you have Win95/98/98se, copy it to c:\windows\system. If you have WinXP, copy it to c:\windows\system32. Then click on the Start button, then on Run, then type in: regsvr32.exe msvcr71.dll ...then OK it. After that, you'll get a message saying that it either succeeded, or failed (in oh so many words). Then try your reinstall of messenger.

I have the same problem is there a site where I can get a free download of file msvcr71.dll? thanks for a reply
