House Deeds

I have the deeds to my house in my possession. Am I correct in thinking that since the increase in the function of the Land Registry, these pieces of paper no longer have the intrinsic value that they once had ?
I've been considering having them framed and displaying them in my house. Is there any good reason (aside from matters of taste !) why I should keep them safely locked away ?

A lot of people nowadays say that - because the Land Registry has the details - the Deeds are pointless. I strongly disagree - particularly for older properties. I have known many cases where the amount of detail on the Land Registry record was insufficient to deal properly with queries about various aspects of the title.

I certainly would not get rid of the Deeds unless you first cross check the information with the details the Land Registry have and are full satisfied that the latter really is complete and accurate. Frame them & display them if you wish but remember that - if they are old papers - the print can fade in the light.

I was more concerned that if I had them on display and some rogue stole them, I would then have a devil of a job proving that my house IS my house as I would no longer have the deeds to back up my claim.

Ownership of the house will be proved by the Land Registry records so you have no worry there.

What they might not do is delineate the precise boundaries of the plot, rights over adjoining land, and things like that
