what's the title of this comedy drama

Sometime in the late nineties there was a comedy drama in two parts set during ww2 starring Martin Clunes as a wing commander and revolving around the rivalry between an RAF pilot and a USAF pilot for a nurses affection. Timothy West's son played the English pilot. In the opening scene the RAF pilot shoots down an american bomber arriving at the base in England.
