Jury service again

I was just reading the recent post regarding Jury service which prompted me to think who is exempt from jury service? What about famous people could a famous footballer or pop star realistically be expected to serve?

Oprah Winfrey just had to serve on jury duty- I don't know if it was because she wanted to or if she had to but I have seen different stars in magazines having to do their civic duty just like us common folk

As far as I am aware, the following are exempt: Police, Prison Officers, Defence Forces Solicitors or others involved with the administration of law Menatlly or Physically incapacitated.

In the newspapers today..Harrison Ford was exempted after a few days of a dull case because he cited conflict of interest as MGM studios were one of the sides in the case.

I'm exempt as a registered Pharmacist. I think anyone that has a medical qualification is too (eg Doctors, registered nurses, opticians etc)

I have a facial scar and sent back the exemption form stating I do not like being in crowds. I got an exemption. You can also get a exemption if you have learning difficulties or concentration/memory problems

SimonC is unfortunately not exempt, and neither am I. Certain professions used to be exempt as he/she suggests, but it's up to the judge now. This country continues to pander to the state more than the individual!

Depends on where you live too - eg Scottish law is different from English law. I haven't checked the differences in jury service though!
