Canine aggression

Hiya.

Just returned from Jack's (Collie-3 y-o) 6 month MOT at the vet.
Vet (who is male) handled Jack quite roughly, taking the lead and pulling him about a bit.
Anyway, Jack rolled over, and the vet said i would have to watch this, as it is actually aggression, rather than submission (which, in his words, "doesn't exist"). Do people agree? Have people experienced this? If so, what steps have they taken to tackle it?

I would really appreciate your thoughts and opinions-I know some of you are v. knowledgeable on doggy subjects :)

Ive always assumed that when they bare there stomachs its an act of submission, my dogs do it, well one does the other just collapses on the floor cos hes too old.
Wolves do the same thing, they will roll over to the dominant male in the pack to show submission. The vet sounds like he s been taking to muck of his own Ketamin!!

Will do leela, and by the way i used to have a collie cross,
one of the most intelligant dogs ive ever had the pleasure of owning, as the others have said another vet might be needed, what a clown he is !! best of luck with jack he sounds like a star : )

Ah tattoo, that's lovely, thank you! As I said, Jack's my first, and he means the world to me. I am not totally rose-tinted, but at the same time I can spot a fool! I am just finishing off my letter of complaint to the practice manager!

If someone could talk me through how to do it, I would love to post some piccies!

as for the piccies - register on photobucket, then you can copy and paste the link for your photos - i find it useful as if I ever have a problem with my computer and the hard drive was to crash (this happened once before), at least I would have access to my photos somewhere on line

i HAVE had problems with a 3yo collie
. only thing that helped was reading 'the dog listener'
by j fennel ? worth a try if you have any questions about
dog behavior - max is now fine.

My vet muzzled my last dog once to take a blood test, I told him that he didn't have to as Robbie was pretty laid back. The vet then showed me a large wound on his arm caused by a laid back dog.

He said that he is friendly and calm with the dogs (and he is both) but to treat them with respect .

He also said that they have more problems with cats being aggressive than the dogs.

I hope that you get a new Vets to see to your Jack. I was always under the impression that showing his stomach was a sign of submission.

Moronic vet - I could get my cats to shred him for you!

wolf, yes please! Looks like we found a new one, and I am meeting with the practice manager for a word!
