Yes
eh? no AAA and AA batteries are not the same...and your camera may take either?
I thought that JR was asking if AA and AAA batteries in the USA are the same as AA and AAA batteries in Europe. Please clarify, JR.

Yes. Are they the same? And are they available? We are planning a three month stay. I was given a gift from Eruope requiring AA batteries that are a quarter inch shorter than US AA batteries. Should I pack batteries?
I have just measured an AA battery very accurately and it is exactly 5 cm long. This (as close as makes no difference) is 2 inches. AA = LR6 Of course, AA and AAA batteries are available everywhere in Europe. In these days of global marketing, I would imagine that camera batteries are standard for the same model everywhere. I find it very surprising that there seems to be a difference between AA batteries in the US and AA batteries in Europe. Perhaps you could let us know what the gift was that you received and we can do some research.

It was silly. A corkscrew. I don't think it would have worked even if I had the correct batteries. 5cm is exactly the same as a Duracell AA. LR6 is also printed on my batteries, so now I know what to look for. Thanks very much.
