Hi, I have a return flight with Alitalia next month - Heathrow to Palermo, with a 75 minute stopover, and change of plane in Milan/Linate on the outward and return legs. Will I have to collect my bags in Milan and check them in again; or will they be forwarded onto my destination automatically. Thanks

It should all happen automatically. I've only done indirect flights twice - once with a 3-hour stop in Chicago, and my luggage duly arrived with me in San Francisco, and once with a 45-minute stop in Brussels, where they managed to lose my luggage not once, but twice - once in each direction! On each occasion it caught me up the following day.
