Scary Dentist!!!!
8 Answers
hello all...i have a new dentist who on now the past two visits has made my gums and my mums very sore. When we questioned him about it last night about the first time we visited him, he said that it was practise to scrape and make the gums bleed so that new tissue could grow. Also that he should polish the fillings and not the teeth so that he can see if there were any cracks or damage to the filling. Before this dentist, this was never performed on a check up and i never had any problems with my teeth after visits. Could someone please tell me if my new dentist is correct in what he is saying because i find it hard to believe since i have never been told this before and lok after my teeth very well?xx

I keep seeing ads showing someone bleeding from the eyes (sorry!) and saying you would see a doctor if this happened so why don't you take action when bleeding from the gums. And your man thinks it's actually healthy?? Anyway, going to see a dentist is about avoidance of pain. Anyone who thinks it's his job to inflict it should be working at Abu Ghraib or somewhere. I'd think seriously about changing dentists if I were you.
I don't know about polishing fillings, that probably makes sense. But why should that stop him polishing enamel as well? I look forward to reading any replies from someone with more experience, but I'd be out the door myself.

I seriously wonder about the eficacy of this treatment. None of my dentists have ever adopted this kind of approach and I wonder if he is just using this as an excuse for sloppy dentistry. You might find it worthwhile trying to contact the professional Dentistry Association (don't know what it's called by try Googling) and ask for their advice. My own recommendation would be to change your dentist. Some minor bleeding can sometimes happen after dental treatment if you have infected gums but I honestly think he's just spinning you a story,
well ive asked why we have to feel pain now with the dentist when i was 13 they used to pop a little black gas mask over my nose and tell me to breathe gas for a min or so and we never ever felt no pain ever,it just seems now the older ways were better with breathing the laughing gas,we never ever!!!! felt pain or associated dentists with pain which they only ever did in the 1800s!why in the 1950s till 1990s did no one ever worry about pain with dentists till again now 2000 plus, cos the goverment wont let the dentist gas you no pain with gas but the injections hurt and you CAN feel it still.Phobic dental patient(Bring back The GAS)
