Flogged Drug Dealer
You may or may not agree with me, but this is just the sort of punishment for Drug Dealers we should have, short of hanging.
These people are responsible for so much that is wrong with our society, deaths, ruined lives and families.
I totally agree with it.
What are your views?.

I think you could well be right, certainly looks that way.
Gromit,
Apologies, i'm not talking about the Goverment, thats a different kettle of fish, and worthy of a thread by itself,
All Yours.
China,
Bearing in mind these are my views,
The punshment must be harsh enough to make them think twice before doing it again, and i'm not advocating violence for every crime, just some, one of which is this one.
Wardy,
I like the rock salt idea, magic.
TEAK36,
You don't agree with this punishment, fair enough,
Would you like to explain how you would stop them, in fact, would anyone on her, who thinks this punishment is too harsh, like to sa what the punishment should be?.

Lonnie,
To be honest, I have absolutely no idea what would be a sufficient deterrent. It's not that I think the punishment is too harsh, I just dont see the point of doing it because I do not believe it works.
Up until about 50 years ago we used to hang people in the UK, but that did not stop people from committing hangable offences. I agree it may deter the few, but not all.
Just look at Texas in the US, they still use the electric chair which must be one of the most barbaric forms of capital punishment there is, but they still have hundreds of prisoners on death row.
Like I mentioned earlier, the money to be made will always outweigh the risk in the eyes of the hardcore drug dealer.

TEAK36,
I appreciate your answer,
A lot of people nowadays don't think hanging worked, I beg to differ, if you look at how many murders in 1952, yo how many in 2002, and its rising.
As I said in my reply to one one of the others, i'd give the mules the same punishment, and yes, you will still get the hardcore trading, but i'd take a bet the amount of them would go down.

As an ex prisoner of her maj the queen, I think that I can speak from a little experience here. Prison on its own doesnt work and contary to popular belief prison is no holiday camp either. However the amount of drug pushers that I've met during my time inside has convinced me that only something as humiliating as that ( whipping ) would be a deterrent, one @ss whipping like that and I doubt if they would try again. Most (if not all) off the dealers that ive met are arrogant b@stards and openly talked about the money that they made...at the expense of others misery...and still dealt on the inside. I lost count of the times I was offered 'a little something'.
Flogging is painful and humiliating. It is also quick, efficient and would free up more space in our overcrowded jails.
I also doubt that it would be worn like a badge of honour as ASBO'S are.

Hi Lonnie.
Firstly, I don't think you answered one of my questions (though WardMinter did) - is this instead of a prison sentence or in addition to?
If this is instead of a prison sentence, then In a very small way you can compare this to when you were back at school - should you have got the slipper or a week's worth of detentions. Personally, I would want the slipper as it is quick and easy and I will still have my afternoons free. Whilst I imagine it would be excruciating pain for a period of weeks, the pain would still go.
If this is in addition to a prison sentence (lets say for arguments sake 5 years) then if you birched them at the start of the prison sentence would something that happened 5 years earlier be fresh in their minds?
If you birched them at the end of their sentences then you are giving them plenty of excuses to not behave them selves inside and to try to escape.
Secondly, The majority of people who smoke marijuana do not go onto anything harder http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2538065.stm

Hi jno,
My apologies for that,
In my humble opinon, it would depend on how long they had been doing it, first time offenders, just the flogging, recurrent offenders, a flogging and prison, (hard labour).
I read your link, and I accept your admonishent on that, but regardless, the punishments I advocate for the pushers and mules, regardless of the type of drug, I stand by.
These dealers in misery must be made to at least have second thoughts before they re-offend.

lonnie...
people are in prison for all sorts of reasons, Ive met some off the nicest people I know in prison and that includes people that have killed someone (usualy in the spure off the moment ). i wouldnt wish death or punishment on them for one minute (although they obviously have got to serve their time). but drug pushers are in a legue of their own.
Pushers of death and misery, they need to be taught a lesson and a good whipping might do them good...

Wizard,
Something i've not said before, I did a bit myself, in Singapore, three months before the charges were proved unfounded, so I know where your coming from, and I agree totally.
Believe me, I don't know what prison is like over here, except from the media and people like you, but no-one wants to experience it over there.
