Filthy people

Where's the most disgusting home you have visited? Why do some people choose to live in squalor? I understand that some people have issues due to mental health, vulnerability, old age etc. but what about others who live this way through choice? Why would they want to?

Well I can only second what KP says, cos I am also an electrician and most of my work is call outs to council properties 99% are great but every couple of weeks we get called to one that is gross, i have seen excrement wiped up the walls, bathrooms that have had to have the floor replaced because pee has rotted the boards, dogs kept under stairs and never let out so you can imagine the stench, the funniest one I had was kitchen light not working,
there was nothing wrong with the light, the flouorescent lamp was so greasy no light was coming through it, I could go on for ages but it is early and if I did tell you some of the things we see, you might puke. why they live like it, I cannot say, but most of these people do not have mental issues they are just filthy.

Thats a good one ray about the flue must admit I have never had that one but I think the best one that I ever had is a emergency call out when I was working for the mod the light was not working so went through the normal procedure have you replaced the bulb der she said yes so went to look at the pendant and took it apart then it dawned on me there was no light bulb in there at all and hey presto put a new bulb in and it must have cost the mod at least 60 god we do meet them dont we
My house is cluttered, but clean. 3 bikes, 3 guitars, books galore, I think you have to be sensible. Many times I have tried to declutter, take stuff to charity shops etc, but at the end of the day I just like being surrounded by books, bikes, guitars, pianos, etc.
Go go Lewis !!! Funny old situation in F1 at the moment.

Hi scoobydooby, I think a lot of emphasis is placed on tidiness as cleanliness, but they are 2 very different things, aren't they!
Of course, there are some people who really can't motivate themselves to keep their environment clean and habitable, but I can't understand people who just don't bother. People csn't say they don't have time, for example, as I know people who have families and full-time work, and they manage well enough.
I probably clean the house thoroughly once a week, kitchen more often, as the man isn't very tidy! He works full-time, whereas I work part-time and am a student too so don't mind doing the bulk of the chores. Sometimes I just can't be bothered, but I never let it slip to the point where the carpet is squelchy and the dust covers everything! On my last placement, I saw some pretty filthy houses, not just messy but really dirty. I couldn't "choose" to live like that: my immune system couldn't cope!

Ha Ha, that's so true Elvis. You always have to say 'No thank you, I've just had one'. I visited one place where the kids were sat at the kitchen table eating their tea (greasy sausages and deep fried chips - in year old oil) and the cat was being sick under the table - and not for the first time by the looks of what was already under there! Kids didn't bat an eyelid though. And come to think of it, I moan at my kids for not putting their ironing away! Maybe I'm being too harsh - just like they tell me!! I'm not over the top when it comes to cleaning - not by a long shot but some people just take it too far. Love some more stories if anyone's got any!
