Help! PC Problems!!!!

Help!
Since returning from holiday my computer is playing up!
When I insert a blank CD it tells me that there is no CD in the drive. I have used several different blank CDS and the same thing happens.

Also, my MSN Messenger 7.5 isnt working either. When I try to enter it, it simply does nothing. When I try removing it I get this message:

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in Safe Mode or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed.

I thought about performing System Restore but it only goes back to the day when I got back from hol!
Can someone provide me with an explanation and solution to my pc problems please?

The cd thing is because you haven't installed the drivers for your cd drive. (details please)

The MSN 7.5 problem can be solved by reinstalling MSN.
