What is the next number in the following series: 1, 4, 8. 13, 21, 30, 36, 45, 54, 63, 73, 85, 95 ?

Well I've already tried that, but I'm still no wiser! Is this really a mathematical series?

since bernardo has supplied the answer, hope this explains it: Each number is the total number of letters contained in each of the previous numbers. (it works just as well if the sequence was 1, 3, 8 )

The way I interpreted it was that each number is increased by the number of letters in its name, so 1 + 3(o.n.e.) = 4, and 4 + 4 (f.o.u.r.) = 8 etc.
