My elderly aunt is in hospital in Glasgow following a stroke. She's been told she'll need to go into a home as she's unfit to take care of herself. Does she need to sell her property to fund being in a home? I'm not sure how the system works but have been told the law in Scotland is different to England. Can anyone advise please? Thanks.

Yes, the law in Scotland is different & elderly people get better care there (I'm an ex-pat Scot, living in Wales). I'm not 100% sure, but I think care is free north of the border for elderly folk. Can you perhaps check this with your aunt's GP in Glasgow - I'm sure they would have the answer.

Hi,
Yes, the house will have to be sold to pay for care in a Nursing Home.
Perosnal care is free in Scotland if your Aunt is receiving any benefits but as she owns her own home, the money from the sale will be taken into account.
