cd burn probs

when burning with nero 6.3 it always freezes at 3% process state and 8% buffer level and the error message is SCSI COMMAND ABORTED.
This is even at low burn speeds and the cd drive is not reading any cd-rs discs either
checked device manager and settings everything seems fine.
Tried copying with built in In Cd- and it DID burn the disc- BUT it wont read it either in my dvd or cd drive (my dvd drive reads other discs fine)
Both my cd-rw and dvd drives are internal
any ideas? is it a hardware or software prob?

Are the drivers all updated?

googling shows it to be a firmware prob -however this means altering bios settings if i update - something im not comfortable with.
Trying to burn avi, movie files and setting is track at once wondering if it should be disc at once?
