painting outside wall

I got the lovely task of painting the exterior of my house this summer, I was told a spraying machine is quite good and fast but uses loads more paint, anyone have any views on this?? I am painting over pebble dash- even nicer!!!!!

Just make sure next doors cars are not on the drive, or their washing is on the line when you start spraying or you may well have a big bill to pay them!!

To spray the exterior of your house, you've got to have a perfect day! That is; very little or no wind, & no risk of rain. As clever trev says you've got to be very careful of cars, washing,block paving etc.
Has the pebble-dash been painted before?

no first time - from reading what you have both said think I'll stick to a brush

Go to a decorators' merchant's & get a long-pile sheepskin roller. Water-down your first coat of paint by about 20%. Don't try to do it with 1 coat!

Actually, an airless spray system is the most efficient method of painting exterior surfaces of all types. These are available for rent at "rent-all" stores here in the U.S. The commercial quality systems cost about $500 and up in U.S.D. to purchase, hence the rental is more cost effective. They have little if any overspray and the amount of paint applied is easily controlled by the adjustments on the machine. I apply thick "out of the can" paints easily and quickly. A house that took me 5 days to paint by brush was painted in a little over 6 hours...

Hi misty is it a house or a bungalow I go with carrust if you get a 12 inch wide with long pile and long 4/5meter telescopic handle you 'l be amazed at the ground you will cover that's without going up a ladder terafirma (excuse spelling) much safer HTH Tez

i decorate for a living and to do this you must have a dry ,warm and wind free day with plenty of dust sheets around the area to be sprayed. stick to the tried and trusted method of rollers and brushes,it is longer but alot less messy.

I had my house done last year and it was pebble dashed that in itself uses about twice as much paint as we expected ie if it was just brick. A brush is better but I didnt have to do it I paid someone but it uses lots of paint and bits of pebble fall off its a crap job
