ex wife pension rights

My husband and his ex wife divorced in 1998 after 6 years of marriage.He is due to leave the army in October after 22 years of service.His ex wife has hinted she is going to make a claim on his pension and lump sum.No one seems to know wether she is still entitled.she has not remarried and they did not sign a clean cut break as they had no assets or property to share when they split up.she took the entire contents of their married quarter.Can someone please advise.

Has be been paying maintenance? Has she / does she work and support herself?

My OH is in the Army and he says that she may have a claim on his pension, but it will only be based on the 6 years they were married. As Ethel says there will be other factors to consider as well.

He does pay maintainance through the CSA for the two children they have together.She works for herself as a beauty therapist and also claims benefit although she has a live in partner to which she has another child with.( we have informed the CSA about this many times but they dont seem to be interested!!!!!!!!)

Kathyan's response sounsds right. That's how it works here
in the US too. It's funny how you view it depending on what side you are on my mother didn't claim any of my father's pension upon his retirement and I was furious,but I would be very unwilling to have someone try to claim mine.
