Has anyone recently advertised a car on Auto Trader and found that they received calls from companies saying they have buyers interested but you have to send them a fee before they send you the details.

Are these companies ligitimate?

Autotrader is the best way of selling a car.

The companies probably are legimate but why pay someone to sell your car when you can do it yourself and cheaper??

Yer I know what your saying but the car was on Auto Trader for 2 weeks and these were the only calls I got.

Apparently after speaking with one of them they advise that the people they have on their books are people that require credit to be arranged and this is what the companies are able to provide.

At the end of the day many young people cannot afford to buy a �3000 car out right so maybe I have to consider the option.

Some companies say they will refund the fee if the buyer takes credit with them.

Im just not keen to part with my money with nothing to say these companies exist. Just wondered if anyone had gone down this route.

Sounds dodgy to me although probably legitimate.

If it hasn't sold in Autotrader have you over priced it??

Dont think so. Have checked the book price and other similar vehicles selling!

I would stick with it without getting them involved, if they are dealing with people who cant get credit it doesnt sound good lol.

These people are not interested in selling your car.
They don't have buyers lined up.
All they are interested in, is the fee up front, usually about �100 or more.
Do not get involved with them, they have been exposed before on BBCs Watchdog.

If they are selling high risk credit they will be making enough money from that, why would they charge you a fee?

Your car would be the hook to bring them in another credit customer!

It sounds like a scam to me.

It would, surely, be more profitable for them to link up buyers and sellers for free and sell more credit if thats their business.

I havn't had any contact with them, but I would tend to avoid!

This is a well known scam. They haven't got any buyers, and there excuse when you contact them about it is to say the 'buyer' changed their mind! Challenge them by saying they can send you a payment for the car, and they can deduct their charges, bet you don't get a response :)

Yes its just a marketing scam with NO guarantee of a sale

had dealings with a company called motorhelp uk paid �70 said they had buyers lining up and that they gave 3month warrenty when their client bought the car.as my car was over 10 years old and over 100000mls it did not qualify for the 3month warrenty they did not tell me this when i signed up. so i asked for a refund but got no responce to emails or letters.in the end i went to trading standards who got my money refunded.so everyone beware of these type of companies

ps you dont get your money back if they sell your car you get a credit note .forgot to mention that
