Unfortunately the figures do not include how many of the people living in poverty are addicted to illegal drugs, alcohol or nicotine.
Could the increasingly violent films, PC and video/DVD games be responsible for the increaing violence on the streets, after all nobody really dies in them they are seen again in the next film etc., and there are no grieving relatives begging for help or someone standing trial for murder and being shown in prison.
I am sure some youngsters do not understand the finality of death, no close relatives dying, never been to a funeral, so it is only when somone they know either kills or is killed that they realise how final death is, however then they then feel that they must get revenge for the death and so the cycle begins
