If I've been tested for chlamydia & the test was negative does this mean i definitely don't have it & have never had it. ie could it be that I had it some years ago & my body has now "got over it" & therefore tests now would be negative and not show an 'old' infection ?

Chlamydia does not just clear up on its own, it needs a course of strong antibiotics so therefore you would never have had it as it can lay undetected for years which it can then cause fertility problems so its a good idea to be regulary checked if you have multiple partners.
Like hectic said, it doesn't self cure so it looks as if you never had it.
