I have just received a letter from a debt collection agency that states they bought my debt from HSBC bank. This was a loan that I had over 8 years ago and have not heard anything from them up until now. Can they pursue a claim for this from me. The total owing is just over 4000.00.

when did you last pay a payment?

must be at least 7 years ago maybe more
Yes they can still pursue for the debt, BUT, if you have not made a payment or have made any correspondance in writing for 6 years then the debt is unenforceable as it is statute barred.

However, if a CCJ is in place they can go back to court to enforce the CCJ and you will have to pay. But if there is no CCJ in place and you have not paid or written in 6 years they cannot get a CCJ so they cannot enforce the debt.

You need to send them a statute barred letter. They will still pursue you and write to you, but in a nutshell - No CCJ, No money!
i have had 14 ccj,s in 5 years and they cannot get it off u!!!!!!!!! then again i live in belfast..............i still get credit.......screw the system!!! they screw us dont they?
