I think that camps for German POWs were just numbered from Camp 1 to Camp 1026. Most were classified as 'Standard' or for captured decorated SS officers a 'Special' camp.
POWs were generally separated out by their political views to being black, white or blue and then sent to a camp. Officers were sent to camps which were more heavily guarded.
After the war the camps were called DP camps (displaced persons) where SS oficers were held but were allowed visits from relatives.
