Traditionally they were often called "horse-stingers" but in fact they don't.
The larvae live in water ("water dragons". They have extendible jaws which snatch passing taddies etc.
The adults just have ordinary insect chewing jaws, and eat other flying insects. Their long tails are for balance, and the claspers at the end are for their particularly complicated form of mating.
