Attention, French-speakers! I know what the phrase means, but where did it come from? Who coined it? And although you should "never say never", what's the meaning if you DO say it? Many thanks, and I await your responses with interest.

The best I can come up with - (from a French dictionary) is "Fountain, I do not drink from your water" I hope this helps.
