At the minute i have a contract with o2 which i have had for a few months, and bought through a mobile phone shop. I would like to get a similar but slightly different contract with o2 online (bought over the internet).

Would i be able to just cancel one contract and take another one out or would i still be charged for line rental on the original contract?

U would have to complete the initial contract unless u have some sort of money back garuntee(carphone warehouse does a 14 day total freedom garuntee) So in your case my friend you will have to complete the year before u can take advantage of another offer or contract.
Phone o2? With Orange you could change your tariff once per month...
yeah thats true but thats not changing your contract. Your just changing your tariff. I think this guy is trying to get a better fone maybe? Or a better deal. Thats how the get you hooked naah? :) But if all u r after is changing ur tarriff ask O2, but if you got a nice fone then the tariff u r on is linked to the value they have subsidised on the phone.
I really wouldn't bother. I have an o2 online contract, 7 months into it and counting' come Xmas & I'm outta there! When you have a problem, not if, you are forced to call their premium help line, they charge you 50p per minute. You can't take your handset (I'm on my 5th) to an o2 shop, they wont touch an online purchase. Corresponding via email is a nightmare and takes ages. You send a message, wait a week, they reply, bog standard reply, you reply wait another week and so it goes on! There website is atrocious Checking bills online is a minefield. There are plenty of other deals out there, with other providers. I'm putting this down to a year's experience never to be repeated.
I'm on O2 online. Their tarrifs are OK. Mine is 200 anytime any network mins, 500 free texts, 25 free phot messages, 1/2 MB free GPRS and 500 mins free dialup WAP allowance - 30 pcm. Also has the best reception I've found - better than Orange who I was with previously. However, as stated previously, customer services will cost you if you go through the correct channels, the website is rubbish - only works 1/2 the time, the range of phones is limited. Try ringing the upgrade line which is local rate (2550 from the phone) and then demand customer service from the operative. He/she has all customer service access to your account. Tell them it is their fault and that you will cancel due to their 'breach of contract' if they don't sort your problem - worked for me! ;-)
