Cooking Mushrooms
14 Answers
I'd like some suggestions on a simple method of cooking standard sized mushrooms.
I don't really want a recipe as such as I'd like to cook them alone with at most, perhaps a little seasoning added.
At the moment, I slice them thinly and microwave them with some butter and some mixed herbs for around a minute.
Ideally, I'm looking for some other method of cooking that's almost as simple.
Many thanks.

The way I do garlic butter is use a big blob of butter and cruch 1-2 garlic cloves in and a good sprinkle of dried parsley. I make quite a bit and keep it in the fridge using only what I need!

You cut them how you like, I slice them thick. If you cook them slowly they will go a bit soggy but if you cook them on high, they will brown especially with butter!
When you buy mushrooms though, if you buy the bif ones with a lot of dark under it they will go a bit grey/black when you cook them, but its ok, tastes nice too!

Knob of butter -heat til foaming but not smoking.....a fat clove of crushed garlic....then the mushrooms.Move them around in the pan til the aroma of garlic&mushrooms become unbearably yummy(!) Mound on a slice of hot buttered toast. PS always make more than you think you need-the mushrooms will shrink!

My hubby uses this recipe from"The complete crafty cook book" by Michael Barry .It's called country mushrooms.

4 large open mushrooms
125ml(4 fl oz) double cream, the thickest you can find.
4 tablespoons butter
4 teaspoons chopped parsley
salt and freshly ground black pepper
Pull the stalks from the mushrooms and wipe the caps.Butter a dish large enough to hold all the mushrooms flat and arrange, black side up. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the cream onto each mushroom, top with a tablespoon of the butter and season well. Bake in a preheated oven 220c (425f) gas mark 7, for 15 mins.
Sprinkle with the parsley and pour over the pan juices.
Serve with thick crusty wholemeal bread and enjoy.
