Men do commit more crime then women (fact AOG especially in the area of violent crime), that is to do with socialisation and what is constructed as crime - a lot of it is to do with possession. Not that women are better its just we don't commit as much. However once women are in the judicial system they are usually dealt with more severely then men, when you compare crime for crime. Criminologist/sociologists explain this as because society has a notion that women are not as criminally inclined, so when they do transgress, the response is more punitive

So it this women is guilty, she should be given a sentence that would be similar to that of a male in the same situation, not harsher nor more lenient. But, most importantly if this crime has been committed the victims experience should be validated and not perceived as a joke, as a vehicle to determine which gender is the most dangerous and certainly not as a platform for people to shout and scream about sex offenders for no other reason than it makes them feel good!
And no I am not trying to occupy the moral high ground (couldn't even if I wanted to, have far too many faults to do so) , its just I work day in day out with victims and perpetrators of child abuse and get really hacked off with the rhetoric that goes no where.
