Has the world gone PC mad?
Correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure that I heard on the the news this morning that supermarket staff are to be given the right to decide not to sell something if they oppose it on religous grounds, the example given was that Muslims might not want to sell alcohol.
I presume that means that either Tesco etc will have to have alcohol free counters that you can use if you are not buying booze or that you will get your shopping as normal and then be faced with a refusal to process when you get to the alcohol on the conveyor belt.
Given the discrimination laws, supermarkets would not be able to discrimintae against these individuals when they are applying for the job, but will untimately have staff that are not doing the job that they are recruited to do.
Is it just me, or do you think that surely if you felt that strongly, you just wouldn't apply for a job that entailed you doing stuff against your beliefs rather than expecting the employer to change the job to suit you?

Incidentally by using "they" I was trying to be non discriminating and not naming any particular minority groups - if anyone has any better suggestions, I will gladly substitute!
I think its down to if you don't want to sell this stuff then don't work were you know you will have to sell it.
I wouldn't go work in a Halal shop because I'm not a muslim so if they really have a problem with how we shop then don't go work in Sainsburys.
By the way what would the chances of a non muslim being employed in a Halal shop be?
