The first initial sign of pregnancy in a great dane occurs when you see a male great dane thrusting furiously away into the female great dane. After a few monthes, the next signs of pregnancy occur, which include abdominal swelling, cravings for pickles & ice-cream with their Alpo, and throwing up all over your pet cat every morning. The next sign of pregnancy occurs when your great dane spontaneouly emits a loud sound like "BEEEAAARRRRKKK!!!" and begins expelling puppies all over the living room. Pregnancy ends at this stage, and begins again when you forget to leash your great dane for the night and she gets out and gets knocked up again. Ah, the Circle Of Life.

If your bitch was mated during her season then a vet can usually palpate pregnancy from 3 weeks or scan from 4 weeks. Pregnancy lasts 9 weeks. The first sign you may be aware of is weight gain but if you are wishing to abort the sooner you get her checked the better.
