Im currently wondering which is the best way to sort out my family tree, without having to sign up for membership and using credit cards etc on websites, Is there any web-sites without these hassles on, i would really like to start one thankyou?

There are plently of websites with free info, the problem is that most have information for pre-1901.

Family history is NOT a cheap hobby and anyone that thinks they can do it on the internet for free is sadly mistaken.

If you are lucky enough to live in the area where most of your ancestors came from, a trip to the Records Office or Archives can save you a fortune. Even if you are not in the area, large libraries usually have subscriptions to the main genealogy websites so you can use theor computers and access the info for free.

Ancestry is the main one and costs �80 a year - in my book, this is worth every penny but most large libararies have access for free.

If you are serious about this, at some point you will have to fork out for birth, marriage and death certificates to prove relationships, and at �7 each it soon ads up!!

Ive been doing our family tree for about 5 years and found the best site to be Genes Reunited. Only costs �7.50 per year and have contacted loads of lost family since joining.Im also in Ancestry but dont find its as good as GR
If you need any help with anything , I may be able to help. Im no expert but enjoy helping where I can as I find it fascinating.

When I first started my own research in 1986 there were no computer records nor internet sites to use, i managed to get most of my lines done by using the IGI, (International Genealogical Index) the 1881 census and the 1851 census, the GRO index from 1837 and the Calendars of Wills from 1858.
I was able to look at these using either my local reference library, the County record Office, or the Mormon Family History Centre, and I had family research to do in Many Counties outside of my home county.
I did on the odd occasion travel to the Public Record Office in London but very rarely.
I would suggest that you learn what is available locally, many libraries now offer a computer connection to the Mormon records which are amazing.
