What is the source of energy for power stations?

In the UK it's Natural Gas, Coal and nuclear with some wind farms and hydro-electric.

There's still the odd oil-fired station around (Grain is one) and there are some coal-fired stations that use oil as a start-up fuel and which can run on oil alone in the event od a shortage of coal.

For the future, the technology for harnessing the energy from the coast's waves and tides already exists - it is just not economically viable at the moment.
