"Sheeple," the word to describe people who follow fashion, trends, thinking, political correctness etc, or indeed anything that requires simple 'following,' rather than going against the flow and 'doing their own thing.'
So, do you have any thoughts on this?

Are you using this thread as a 'side-step vindication' of your stance in this thread ? http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/Society-and-Cul ture/Religion-and-Spirituality/Question469052. html

You seem to be focusing less on the herd-like actions of the fashionistas and turning the topic around to multi-culturism and political correctness. Was that the direction that this thread was intended to take ?
Then their opinon can not be that strong Theland.

I have to say I've not seen any real problem with debates on any of the subjects you've mentioned, they seem to be covered on here on a weekly if not daily basis in News. Plus on the radio, in the pub, sitting round the dinner table... Freedom of speech is not stiffled in this country.

Unless you're talking about having it in a public arena with politicans addressing your issues?

I think that's a generalisation. Some people may have opinions they don't broadcast (of what exactly? Being called a name?) but not everyone. I certainly don't have secret opinions in my heart of heart.

Well.... 'cept for thinking that S Club 7 had a couple of good songs.
Theland, The racist label is applied not when trying to talk about muslim terrorism but when trying to expand that to ALL muslims.

And the reason for that is that attempting to tar all of a particular race or creed with a particular brush is ...er...racism.

Just as it would be if you tried to say that all Irish people were terrorists.

Jack - You are right of course. I have used poor examples to illustrate my thinking on this. But examples nevertheless.
I once found myself propelled into the office of shop steward by a unanimous vote because I was forever bucking the trend and questioning the management on all manner of issues.
Most, not all, of my colleagues would not stand up for themselves, let alone each other.
I find this attitude alive and kicking in my present employment. Hmmm. Kicking is hardly the word, but you get my drift.

Jake - I agree and I confess to being guilty of not articulating my views in such a way as to make the distinction clear.
Undoubtedly on that issue, I caused offence, and once again apologise for doing so.
Too many are born Worshippers, they love Royalty, Religion Celebrities and Pedants {English Teachers}.
Theland, have you ever been to church (daft question)? Well, there you will see the most basic example of people behaving like sheep. They are told that there is a 'God' and a fairytale about Jesus and not only do they believe it all but some (no names) actually build their lives on it.
