I have a cactus, it's the only piece of foliage I have ever possessed and I'm very attatched to it, I've had it since it was a nipper. Over the years I've repotted it whenever it's outgrown it's pot but now it's about 1.5-2 foot wide and of equal hight, quite heavy and exceedingly prickly. Any advice on what would be the easiest way to repot it?

Well done you've obviously given it lots of t.l.c.! Use a special compost for cacti - most garden centres sell this. Get help, strong gardening gloves and collars of newspaper which you hold around the plant to support it and avoid getting lots of prickles yourselves. Add a couple of ins. of compost to the new pot. Gently lift the cactus to its new home and infill with compost. Hope this is successful.
