Weight gain
10 Answers
Hi all, I'm 5'10" and only weigh 8.5 stone which apparently means I'm quite underweight. This time last year I weighed 9 stones but went through quite a stressful time (lost my job just before xmas...) and half a stone fell off. I haven't changed my eating habits at all and don't exactly starve myself but I can't seem to put the weight back on.
I don't look like a stick and have been told I have a good figure, but at the same time I'd like to put on some weight and maybe get a slightly fuller figure! What sort of thing should I be eating to put on weight without resorting to eating rubbish? Pasta? Meat?
Any advice would be a great help!

I went to the doctors who did a blood test, testing my thyroids mainly, but chekcing other stuff out too. All came back just fine and was told I didnt have to worry unless I had a dramamtic weight loss.
If you are really worried about why you cant put it on, go see your docs, if nothing else it will put your mind at ease that all is ok. Other than that, just eat three healthy meals a day and add a pudding to your evening meal. Im sure if you eat a varied diet and include all the food groups you will gradually start gaining weight but it will probably be very slow and gradual.

hi Psychick
I too went to the docs and had thyroid bloods taken etc but nothing showed up, i did feel that they didnt take me eriously tho, saying "most people would be grateful" etc
not many people have sympathy and have made my life a mysery about it with cruel jokes etc
It has taken me YEARS to put on just half a stone, Im now 5'3" and 48kg

I usually manage to gain a few pounds over months and months then lose it all again with a blink of the eye!
Im 5'8" and would struggle to keep my weight up around 8 1/2 stone. The start of this year it was at an all time low at less than 8 stone.
I havent got a problem gaining weight at the moment though :) In fact, Im scared to weigh myself and see how much Ive gained so far! lol

When I was a teenager - many years ago - my mum added Complan to my diet to build me up. I was 5' 6" and weighed about 7st 10 lbs. It's what they give people in hospital when they are run down. It's sort of like a milk shake. Mum used to make my custard & milky puds with it. You should have it in addition to normal meals.

If you are young I wouldn't worry too much as you will put some weight on as you get older. I've always been glad to be skinny cos now that I'm an old lady I'm still slim and for most of my adult life have been around 8st 6lbs. Makes clothes shopping easy!
