Speeding Ticket Proof
Hello.. I was pulled over doing 89 mph on the M1 recently, got a 60 fine and 3 points. I still have to produce my documents, I'm just wondering if I should surrender my licence. The Police chap asked me to step into the car, showed me his smart video screen in the car, I was looking forward to seeing what they had, well there was no film footage of them following me at my speeds, all they had was just this marker on the screen, saying what distance I had travelled over a certain time, and they worked out 89 mph(doing 100mph really...)... anyway my question was, is that proof that I was speeding?(in court I mean)
Thanks
Mos

im not trying to get out of paying the fine.. thats not the issue, it was more about the 3 points.
'a marker on the screen' - I meant to say was, I got into the police car, I could see my car on the screen parked on hard shoulder(live picture), but nothing was recorded of me speeding, no camera or speed gun.. so no evidence really.. im not trying to get away with it, but i just thought police needed a bit more proof when putting points on the licence.. i understand the fine , not going to question that... but i wouldn't mind avoiding the points...
and to all those people crying about the speed.. one can drive fast if the conditions are right, ok i was doing 100.. but the road was empty...i wasn't tailgating anyone...etc.. when police car pulled me, we were the only one on that stretch of the M way... btw I've been driving for 11 years now this is my FIRST driving violation, so I don't think im that irresponsible...
If you and Mr Plod were the only ones on that stretch of the M1 I would seriously suggest you pay up and look happy.(along with the 3 points)... and as soon as possible put a sticker on the dash ... reminding you to CHECK YOUR MIRROR from time to time...at 100 mph you COULD have been BANNED...and thats a bit worse than 3 points..I supose the Plod appeared from nowhere... as they usually do...
There will be evidence - cop cars have a lot of other stuff on board aside from the video system.
I would say you have been very fairly treated with that penalty. Sure you can go to court and contest it. You might even get away with it if the copper doesn't turn up or offer any evidence. However, you are more likely to incur costs and a stiffer penalty.
Have done with it and just pay up.
